Beginning Greek

Welcome to Beginning Greek!

This course will help students to lay a foundation for lifelong reading and interpretation of the Greek New Testament. This course will also deepen the student’s study of the apostolic Scriptures.

By God’s grace, students will:

  • understand how Greek works in terms of vocabulary, grammatical constructions, and syntax;
  • be prepared to translate the Gospel pericopes for a given Sunday to further enrich the reception of God’s Word in the Divine Service;
  • demonstrate a more precise command of the target language (English) as a result of the course’s exposure to the source language (Greek);
  • articulate the Gospel (or Christological content) of a biblical text better as a result of having studied Greek;
  • apply the insights of a Greek text, in a simple way, to people who don’t know Greek at all;
  • perceive the overall relevance of Greek for living the Christian life.
