About Our Pastor

Hi! I’m Pastor Courie (pronounced Corey). I was ordained and installed as pastor of Our Redeemer in July, 2019. I’m a second-career pastor, an adult convert to the Lutheran church, and at one time an agnostic (“can we really know there’s a God and that Jesus is who he claimed to be?”). I’m passionate about Lutheran doctrine (teachings) and practice. The history of the Lutheran church, which is deeply rooted in the history of the Christian church which goes all the way back to Jesus and His Apostles, has riches and depth that is both traditional (“handed on”) and contemporary (“with the time”). I love it and want others to love it, too, because it points us to the reality that the Apostle Paul spoke of in Romans 3, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus”. My wife, Christina, and our two daughters, Keira and Harper, are Southern California natives, though we consider this little town of Wahoo our new home.

I love to talk about Jesus, faith, the Bible, worldviews, tough questions, and so much more. I love preaching, teaching, administering the Sacraments, and I have a heart for pastoral care (private conversations in which you need consoling, guidance, or whatever it may be.) I don’t claim to be an expert in much of anything, but a life-long learner. I’ve studied theology (the study of God) for more than a decade, but I’m always relearning and learning new things. If you have a question I don’t know how to answer, I’m happy to admit it and then go digging into my books to get back to you with something substantive.
